Service Designer Lead - Delivery, Planning, Mentoring, Hybrid, Northwest

We are seeking an experienced and influential Service Designer Lead to join our client. As a senior practitioner, you will lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, shape high-impact service redesign programmes, and provide expert guidance to senior leadership. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive innovative service solutions within a dynamic environment, particularly within the public sector.

Role Responsibilities

In this pivotal position, you will be responsible for leading and managing a multi-disciplinary service design function. You will oversee complex, high-risk redesign projects, ensuring delivery aligns with strategic objectives and quality standards. Collaborating closely with service managers and programme directors, you will develop innovative design concepts, set strategic direction, and maintain the quality of design delivery across teams.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience managing complex service design projects and programmes within medium to large organisations, including digital technology solutions
  • Significant leadership experience guiding service design teams to address complex organisational challenges
  • Skilled in delivering prototypes, interactions, and wireframes within tight schedules to foster creative problem-solving
  • Expert knowledge of service design principles, especially within public sector environments, including:
  • Service blueprinting
  • System and process mapping
  • Journey mapping
  • Prototyping and piloting
  • Iterative design and test-and-learn approaches
  • Storyboarding and future state development
  • Strong understanding of public sector financial frameworks, business case development, benefits realisation, and affordability considerations to shape and challenge redesign proposals
  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures for service design
