An exciting opportunity has become available with our prestigious client who is a prominent government department. The client is seeking an experienced Senior Scientific Software Engineer to join their welcoming team.

The focus of this role will be creating and maintaining the data pipelines for the forecast production (inference), visualisation and verification tasks and makes the outputs from those tasks available to users (research, operational meteorologists). This will involve setting up workflows and related infrastructure on the organisation and cloud platforms, and supporting the creation of curated datasets for use in further analysis and research.

 

The Senior Scientific Software Engineer Role:

  • Creating scripts and workflow components to process weather data going into and out of ML weather models and to downstream analysis and visualisation systems
  • Advise on optimising data pipelines for increasing throughput, reducing storage requirements and improving robustness
  • Explore options for more intuitive and scalable data interfaces
  • Improve metadata handling of workflow to comply with relevant standards

 

What the Senior Scientific Software Engineer Will Need:

  • Data modelling, validation and processing
  • Python software engineering
  • Big data infrastructure, workflow tools and practices
  • Show deep and/or broad relevant technical insight through delivery and evaluation of significant advances in data engineering capability by the effective application of technical knowledge, understanding and skills
  • Engage with internal and external people to understand the requirements for your work and its wider context, and significantly contribute to the development of plans to meet these requirements, informing wider strategic planning
  • Promote good Quality Assurance processes, best practice, standards and/or regulations in your work and that of other
  • Communicate knowledge accurately and concisely in written documents and discussions, tailoring communication for diverse audiences
  • Proactively develop your technical skills and support others in developing their technical skills.
