Exciting new contracted Senior Project Manager role available. As part of this role you will takes responsibility for the definition; documentation and safe execution of a single major project or a number of smaller initiatives; actively participating in all phases of the project. Identifies; assesses and manages risks to the success of the project. Effectively estimates costs; timescales and resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project(s) to agreed terms of reference. Ensures that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and tracks all activities against the plan; providing regular and accurate reports to stakeholders; as appropriate. Monitors and forecasts costs; timescales and resources used; and takes action where these deviate from agreed tolerances. Ensures that delivered systems are implemented within these criteria. Manages the change control procedure; ensures that change is captured; impact assessed and approved and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost; timescale and resource budgets; and are signed off. Gains agreement for revisions to the project(s) from project sponsors. Provides effective leadership to the project team ensuring that team members are motivated and developing their skills and experience. Takes appropriate action where performance deviates from agreed tolerances. Actively represents the project team; ensuring that effective relationships are built and maintained with the business. Ensures that own projects are formally closed and; where appropriate; subsequently reviewed; and that lessons learned are captured and actioned. Produces appropriate documentation to support these processes.

POST SPECIFICS:
The Strategic Services team in ISS Networks manages a number of radio and terrestrial networks to support military operations globally. MAS is required to develop a project plan and undertake concept phase activities towards the acquisition of a new strategic radio terminal. This will involve working with users, industry and functional SMEs in order to clarify the requirement, estimate the delivery cost, develop a procurement strategy, produce a delivery schedule and draft the Initial Gate Business Case.
This role is responsible for managing the delivery of projects at the cutting edge of technological and scientific developments commensurate with the skills, experience and qualifications required for the post. The individual must be able to demonstrate a successful track record and significant experience of managing and delivering projects.

Supporting all areas of Defence, the programmes and projects that ISS are responsible for range from short term, fast paced and complex operational communications services through to large scale endeavours that can take many years to complete. Working with industry partners and sometimes international counterparts, ISS Project Professionals will be undertaking some of the most challenging activities in the procurement and support of military capability.

The individual in this role will be required to support differing projects depending on the business needs. Due to the nature of the business, all roles may be subject to additional tasking from time to time as required by function and line management in support of our ‘agile resourcing’ approach.

 

Good experience of managing complex projects as project manager and in delivering successful outcomes. May have experience of being in a specialist role within a high complexity project.
Experience of defence acquisition and military communication systems.
