An exciting opportunity has become available with our prestigious client who is a prominent government department. The client is seeking an experienced Public Health Programme Lead to join their welcoming team.

 

The Public Health Programme Lead Role:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the range of factors impacting on health and wellbeing and health inequalities within the maternity and early years life segment drawing on the full range of international, national, regional and local qualitative and quantitative data and evidence
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the current and future health needs of the population, the extent to which these needs are being met and the priorities for improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities
  • Develop an in depth understanding of the local assets supporting or potentially supporting health and wellbeing of the population
  • Based on the above, develop, deliver or oversee the appropriate use of a range of methodologies to inform an in-depth assessment of factors impacting on current and future health needs and local assets, including: in depth needs assessments, health impact assessments, health equity audits, evidence reviews, evaluations, economic evaluations, modelling, asset mapping, participatory research, surveys, qualitative studies, local and national health surveillance systems
  • Be the strategic lead for Joint Strategic Needs Assessments for Maternity and Early Years including: identifying and agreeing priorities for JSNA work including factsheets and in-depth studies, establishing stakeholder groups supporting JSNA work, ensure the perspectives of the public and local communities are sought and integral to the JSNA process, maintain oversight of the implementation of resulting recommendations
  • Working with academic partners, providers and community organisations to develop a research agenda to better understand public health needs where gaps have been identified
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the range of factors impacting on health and wellbeing and health inequalities within the Maternity and Early Years life segment drawing on the full range of international, national, regional and local qualitative and quantitative data and evidence
  • Lead a whole system approach to drive transformational change
  • Influence and change local policy and legislation to positively impact on population health and reduce health inequalities
  • Work across the organisation and with partners at local, regional and national level to develop or oversee the development of an action plan to make measurable progress against each aspiration
  • Ensure the effective engagement of communities and key stakeholders in strategies and plans
  • Develop a communication and engagement plan as an integral component of delivery plans against each aspiration
  • Work with academic partners, community organisations and providers to identify and take forward a collaborative programme of research relating to aspirations
  • Build and contribute to the evidence base around delivery against aspirations and disseminate through conferences and publication of papers
  • Understand, apply and champion the principles of research governance and ethics

 

What the Public Health Programme Lead Will Need:

  • Masters level qualification in Public Health or related subject or equivalent professional qualification
  • Significant experience of public health practice at a senior level and at a practical level to improve health and wellbeing
  • In depth understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation
  • Good understanding of the nature and sources of routine and ad hoc health, social care and wider public health data sets
  • Good understanding of NHS, local government cultures, structures, policies and the interface between health and social care
  • Understanding of social and political environment
  • In depth understanding of health inequalities, the main determinants of health and interventions to effectively promote health and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of the methods of developing clinical quality assurance, quality improvement, evidence based clinical and/or public health practice for populations with high health needs and/or risk factors
  • Good understanding of community engagement, community mobilisation and community empowerment to promote health and wellbeing
  • Good understanding of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH) training programme and equivalent competency frameworks
